My heart is breaking…

Favorite quote: Despite the surge in kidnappings of foreigners and Iraqis and political and sectarian violence before parliamentary elections on December 15, U.S. troops may soon start to withdraw as overall security improves.
Iraq’s national security adviser said up to 30,000 of the 155,000 U.S. troops in Iraq could leave in early 2006.
This makes me think -out loud, very loudly- about this situation in terms of chicken and egg. If US troops left, would this kidnapping end?
(And add this to the Feline Warrior lexicon: TOL is to “thinking out loud” as LOL is to “laughing out loud”)

I have to pray to forgive myself, for having wasted so much time ruminating on my rage about such things , while I can’t figure out how to deal with the truly homeless & unfortunate vs. the ‘addict/scammers’ on the subway in NYC ……should I really get to be the judge of who’s-who in that picture? and I have precious little to offer….but , yes, my heart breaks. Perhaps one was really an angel…sent to ‘take the tempeature’ of human kindnes in that car, on that line, on that particular morning?
We are all God’s children. Or part of a ‘greater plane/ AND plan’…..what must He/it be thinking of where we find ourselves today?
The God I grew up with is gonna come down here and take names and kick some serious ass! (and perhaps he should!) but, then again, I may well be ‘on the list’!
As i grow older I realize 2 things: 1.) the onlything Iknow,…. truly, truly know for sure…is..that -I -don ‘t -know- …and more than likely never will.
So faith…the opposite of fear…is a must for me (TOL), or I am doomed to continue wasting what’s left of my life ruminating and trying to try to fine “THE answer”. Becuase I apparently once thought -in some misguided dilusion of grandiosity -that was MY job abd MY responsibility.
I’m thinking now, we don’t GET to know the answer(s)….we probably couldn’t understand them, anyway …trapped inside our human minds/souls/experience as we are.
As to Iraq…..personal emotional involement would have me upset about the horrific ‘deja vu’ of it all ( a la Viet Nam) if anyone remebers THAT nightmare….again, it’s the poor (of us) laying thier lives on the line…and (a la Viet Nam, again) for WHAT???I can see a 17-18 your old (like myself circa 1969/ Tet offisive, etc., etc.) trying, without ‘adult’ guidance (having NEVER had any no doubt) ..”perhaps if I do this…AND SURVIVE..then I can get some college out of the deal afterwords”.
NOT A GOOD PLAN YOUNG FELLAHS!!!”
How could he know he will be scarred for life with the horror he will bear witness to, and worse yet, be responsible for. “mistakes”, like mowing down a group of mothers and childern…pausing a nano-second to let that image burn itno his brain…one that will wake him up sweating and screaming in the dead of night, years later. (over and over again). College not withstanding!
Trying NOT to be persoanlly emotionally involved…the best I can offer is that we are apparently a species of animal that is programmed at some level to kill one another. At least that is what history shows me, from Caine & Able (sp?) to this kid in England. And American politics, the modern world at large swings on a cyclical pendulum…..from the 60’s/ Haight-Ashbury-Timothy Lary/ George McGovern….all the way back to Ronal Regan and our last (finally greatly “honored’) pope….yep, he did a lot of good stuff…but first, like Regan he took what some of us deemed to be progress and set it right back to where it was before we started battling so hard to change a few things.
That WE deemed to be right….(with OUR own’righteousnes’ ?)
Now, that so many years have passed, we came back to the middlle of the pendulum swing to Clinton…who , clearly ‘moderate’ at best. was deemed ‘liberal’ given the atmosphere of that time. Seems we are now about DUE for whatever the next ‘thing’ (a la ’60’s) to happen again as the pendulum swings back LEFT side again after it was ast there about 35 + years ago. Surely the pendulum is swinging back again. (PLEASE tell me it is!)
If nothing else…the simple formula for all revolution: The ‘have nots’ [finally “get it” that the “HAVES” a.) can’t do it without them and b.) they outnumbner the ‘haves’ about 1000 to 1 if not much much more. (South Africa) so they] ‘take it back’.
And round and round we go.
Especially interesting when we are killing one another for “The Lord” (Crusades) or what ever spirituality that has brought in as an excuse or rationalization for such henous actions. Liek flying airplanes into buildings.
Yep, I think we just don’t GET to know the answers.
